An 8-time Cup of Excellence winner from El Salvador, Gilberto has devoted his life to producing high quality specialty coffee. He is a third-generation farm owner of Finca Los Pirineos, which his family has operated since 1890. Los Pirineos sits on the potassium and phosphorus-rich slopes of Tecapa Volcano, Usulután at an elevation of 1400-1480 meters, providing ideal growing conditions with stable rainfall and cool temperatures. The small-scale producer experiments with flavor profiles by working with over 77 varietals in his nursery-workshop in search of the ultimate cup. In 1998, Gilberto founded the El Salvador specialty coffee exporting company, Exportadora Tecapa, which focuses on processing and exporting specialty grade coffees in the region.
