Coffee & Human Rights

Sarah G. Grant is an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at California State University, Fullerton. She studies the industrial grade and burgeoning specialty coffee industries in Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Vietnam. After conducting several years of ethnographic research on the influx of foreign capital from large multinational corporations into the Vietnamese coffee industry and the invisibility of Vietnam in the global coffee consuming sphere she is shifting focus to examine the burgeoning specialty scene in the region. Her research also takes a critical perspective on gender, risk, and future ambitions by examining the implications of the full coffee production and consumption spectrum for producers and their families in Vietnam.
